About Silk Our Causes

Farm Aid

Silk Soymilk has been the title sponsor of the annual Farm Aid concert since 2003. Silk has been a proud supporter of Farm Aid since 2002 because we believe in demonstrating ongoing support for Farm Aid's mission to keep family farmers on their land.

WhiteWave Foods, parent company for Silk, is an industry leader in environmental stewardship and is deeply rooted in providing support to causes like Farm Aid that sustain and improve communities, the environment and the economy.

The family farms that Farm Aid raises awareness and funds for provide Americans with safe, healthful food, help protect natural resources and strengthen local economies. They also contribute greatly to the success of organic and natural products. In fact, Silk purchases enough organic ingredients to support thousands of acres nationwide, helping to keep family farmers of organic agriculture in business.

"Silk has been steadfast in the mission to promote the health and well-being of consumers and the environment by providing high quality natural and organic foods throughout the U.S.,” said Mike Keown, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Research and Development for WhiteWave Foods. “The brand cannot accomplish that mission without strong farmer partners, who help supply the growing demand for natural and organic soy products. For that reason, we are proud to lend our support to Farm Aid."

The Farm Aid Mission Statement

Farm Aid’s mission is to keep family farmers on the land. Our goal is to bring together family farmers, citizens and consumers to restore family farm-centered agriculture. As you all know, family farmers ensure healthful food, protect natural resources, and strengthen local economies.

The following Farm Aid programs accomplish this mission:

Promoting Food from Family Farms
Farm Aid stages America’s longest running annual concert event that unites farmers, artists, consumers, and concerned citizens to build a powerful movement for good food from family farms. Throughout the year, Farm Aid promotes food from family farms through inspiring and informative television, radio, mail, and web campaigns.

Growing the Good Food Movement
Farm Aid and its partners implement innovative strategies that bolster what Farm Aid calls the Good Food Movement – the growing number of Americans reaching for and demanding family farm-identified, local, organic or humanely-raised food. Farm Aid grants build connections between farmers and consumers creating new markets for family farmers.

Helping Farmers Thrive
Through 1-800-FARM-AID and www.farmaid.org, Farm Aid staff refers farmers to an extensive network of family farm organizations across the country. The referrals support farmers seeking to make transitions to more sustainable and profitable farming practices, and also provide immediate and effective support services to farm families in crisis. Farm Aid makes grants to farm and rural service organizations to create a network of resources for farmers.

Taking Action to Change the System
Farm Aid works with and provides grants to local, regional and national organizations to promote fair farm policies and grassroots organizing campaigns to defend and bolster family farm-centered agriculture. By strengthening the voices of family farmers themselves, Farm Aid stands up for the most resourceful, heroic Americans—the family farmers who work the land.

Since 1985, 80% of total expenditures have supported Farm Aid’s programs outlined above.
